RECEPTION:

The game received criticism during E3 2019 preview since it dealt with realistic and adult subject matter, such as portraying kid troops and letting players shoot spectators. (including infants).thought it was the most polarising game of the day, while Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw of Escapist Magazine called the gameplay demonstration "fifteen minutes of icy intense ruthless killing"Others who criticized also had conflicting views. Emma Kent of Euro Gamer criticized a level in which the player allegedly controls a child soldier, claiming that it inappropriately combined sensitive subject matter or over-dramatized violence into a boss fight, creating "a Frankensteinian, dissonant mess." Kent referred to the previous successes of gaming as a medium to provide social commentary on war and conflict, such as Spec Ops: The Line, This War of Mine, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Kent praised the level for being "a good examination of how terrorists are embedded within civilian communities," but criticized it for placing a "heavy-handed" emphasis on preventing innocent collateral damage.
